Quick recommendation

Buy the 16A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. That is the whole answer for a LiveWire, and it is deliberately the cheapest recommendation on this site. The bike carries a 1.4 kW onboard charger, and that figure is a hard ceiling set by the machine itself. Nothing you plug it into can push past it, so a 16A cable already supplies more than the LiveWire will ever draw.

UK and European bikes use a Type 2 socket, built into a CCS Combo 2 inlet. American LiveWires were fitted with Type 1, so if you are reading advice written for the States, ignore it. A standard Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the correct fit here, whether you bought a Harley-Davidson badged bike from 2019 to 2021 or a LiveWire ONE from March 2023, when LiveWire became a brand of its own. Mechanically and electrically the two are the same machine.

With 13.6 kWh usable and 1.4 kW going in, a full charge takes around 12 hours 30 minutes. That number does not move. Plug into a 3.7 kW unit, a 7.4 kW home charger or a 22 kW three phase post and you will still be waiting about twelve and a half hours, because the restriction is on the bike. Buying the 32A or three phase version of this cable would cost you more and save you nothing. For a genuinely quick top up you would use the CCS side of the inlet at a rapid charger, which takes the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in about 40 minutes and needs no cable of your own.

Length matters differently for a bike. Most LiveWires live in a garage, a shed or a bike store rather than on an open driveway, so measure from the socket to where the front wheel actually ends up, then add slack for wheeling the bike in and out without dragging the lead. Five metres suits a single garage with the socket on the same wall. Ten metres is the safer choice if power comes from the house and the bike sits at the back of a shed, if you share a store with other bikes, or if you also plug in at work where the post may be a bay or two away.

Which cable does a Harley-Davidson LiveWire need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 16A. UK and European bikes carry a Type 2 socket inside a CCS Combo 2 inlet, and the onboard charger tops out at 1.4 kW. A 16A cable is rated well above that, so it is the correct buy for both the 2019 to 2021 Harley-Davidson bike and the LiveWire ONE.

How long does a LiveWire take to charge?

About 12 hours 30 minutes from empty to full, using the 13.6 kWh usable battery and the bike's 1.4 kW onboard charger. That is an overnight charge plus a good part of the following day, so most riders simply leave it plugged in whenever the bike is back in the garage.

Is a 32A cable any faster on a LiveWire?

No. The 1.4 kW limit sits inside the bike, so a 32A cable, a 22 kW three phase cable and our 16A cable all deliver exactly the same 12 hours 30 minutes. There is no scenario on AC power where paying more for a heavier cable makes a LiveWire charge any quicker.

Is the LiveWire ONE different from the LiveWire?

Only in badge. LiveWire split from Harley-Davidson as its own brand, and the bike returned to the UK as the LiveWire ONE in March 2023. Battery, inlet and charging rate are unchanged at 13.6 kWh usable, Type 2 with CCS, and 1.4 kW, so both take the same 16A cable.

Can I charge a LiveWire from a three pin socket?

Yes. Our Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is adjustable from 6A to 12A, but since the bike will only accept 1.4 kW you get the same 12 hours 30 minutes as from a wallbox. That makes it a genuinely useful touring cable for hotels and bed and breakfasts with no charge point.

Do I need 5m or 10m for a garage?

Measure from the socket to the bike's inlet, then add a metre or two of slack for manoeuvring. Five metres covers most single garages with the socket on the same wall. Take ten metres if the supply is at the house, the bike lives at the back of a shed, or the store is shared.
