Whatever year your Model X is, the cable is a Type 2 to Type 2 at 32A. Take the 5m or the 10m. Every Model X uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, from the first 2016 cars through to the 2021 refresh and the Plaid, so nothing about your driveway setup changes with model year. The differences that follow all concern rapid charging and three phase posts, not the cable you plug in at home.

The important dividing line is May 2019. Cars built up to April 2019 use Type 2 for AC charging and for Supercharging alike, with no CCS port at all. From May 2019 the Raven cars kept Type 2 for AC and added CCS for rapid charging. An early car needs Tesla's paid CCS retrofit before it can use a modern V3 Supercharger, which is worth knowing if you are buying used, but it makes no difference to a home wallbox.

Onboard charger ratings moved around too. The earliest 2016 cars take 11 kW, or 22 kW if they were specified with the optional twin chargers. Later pre-facelift cars and the Raven take 16.5 kW on a three phase supply. The 2021 refresh and Plaid take 11 kW. Every one of those numbers collapses to 7.4 kW on a British home supply, because UK houses are single phase and 7.4 kW is the physical ceiling. Batteries run from 75 kWh on early cars to 100 kWh on later ones, so a full charge at 7.4 kW takes somewhere between eleven hours thirty and fifteen hours fifteen. In practice nobody arrives empty, and an overnight session covers normal use comfortably.

One point on provenance. Tesla withdrew right hand drive Model S and Model X from the UK and Ireland in 2023, so a car bought here now is either used or a left hand drive import. That has no bearing on charging. Type 2 is the European standard and the inlet is identical on an imported car.

Which cable does a Tesla Model X need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A, in 5m or 10m. Every Model X from 2016 onwards charges on AC through a Type 2 inlet, so one cable covers the whole range. On a UK home supply it delivers 7.4 kW, filling a 100 kWh car in roughly fifteen hours fifteen minutes from completely empty.

Do I need a CCS cable for home charging?

No. CCS is a rapid charging connector and those cables are attached to the charger itself, never carried in the boot. Model X cars from May 2019 have a CCS port for rapid charging, but all AC charging still runs through the Type 2 inlet. The 32A Type 2 cable is the only one you buy.

How do I tell a pre 2019 Model X apart?

Look at the inlet. Cars up to April 2019 use Type 2 for AC and for Supercharging, with no separate CCS pins below the socket. Raven cars from May 2019 add the two large CCS pins underneath. An early car needs Tesla's paid retrofit before a modern V3 Supercharger will work with it.

Is the three phase cable worth the extra?

Only if you use three phase posts. At home it gives 7.4 kW, identical to the single phase cable, since British houses are single phase. On a three phase supply a pre-facelift or Raven car pulls 16.5 kW, and the 2021 refresh 11 kW, so the benefit depends on which car you own.

Why is my Model X left hand drive?

Tesla stopped selling right hand drive Model S and Model X in the UK and Ireland in 2023. Cars offered here now are used stock or left hand drive imports. Charging is unaffected. Type 2 is the European standard connector and an imported car takes exactly the same cable as a UK supplied one.

Should I choose 5m or 10m?

The Model X is a long car and the gap between a wallbox and the inlet is easy to underestimate once you allow for parking angle. 5m suits a box mounted right beside the bay. Go for 10m if it is on the far side of a garage, behind the car, or shared with a second vehicle.
