Fifteen metres is a length people arrive at by necessity rather than preference. This Type 2 tethered cable is for the wallbox that has to reach a long way: a charge point by the house with parking at the end of a long drive, a unit fitted where the supply came in rather than where the car sits, or a shared yard where the nearest wall is nowhere near the bay.
It is a tethered cable, which means it does not travel with you. One end is wired permanently inside the charge point during installation and the other is a Type 2 plug for the car. Nothing is stored, nothing is coiled into a boot, and there is no lead lying about to be picked up by anyone passing.
The cable is rated at 32A. On a British home supply, which is single phase, 7.4 kW is the maximum available no matter what is fitted, so the 32A rating exists to make sure the cable is never the limiting factor. Length does not slow charging down. A 15m lead delivers exactly what a 5m one does.
What length does cost you is handling. Fifteen metres of 32A cable is heavy and takes real effort to gather up neatly, which is one reason a wall bracket is worth fitting beside the unit. Only order this length if you have measured and shorter genuinely will not reach, because a tethered cable cannot be swapped without an electrician returning.
Installation is an electrician's job for the same reason: the cable is terminated inside the charge point. If a shorter run works for you, our 5m and 10m Type 2 tethered cables cost less and are far easier to manage.

When do I actually need 15 metres?
When the charge point cannot be mounted near the car. Common cases are a wallbox fixed by the consumer unit at the house with parking at the far end of the drive, a garage wall on the wrong side, or shared parking where the bay and the wall are simply distant from one another. Measure before ordering.
What does tethered mean on a charge point?
The cable is built into the unit permanently instead of being a loose lead you plug in at both ends. It hangs from the wallbox between charges. A socketed or untethered unit works the other way, with a bare socket on the wall that you connect your own portable cable into every time.
Which end goes into the car?
The Type 2 connector. The opposite end has no plug, because it is wired directly into the charge point when the cable is fitted. That is why a tethered cable arrives with a single connector and cannot be used as a portable lead between a public post and your car.
Can I install it myself?
No. Fitting requires opening the charge point and terminating the cable inside it, which is electrical work on a hard wired appliance. Use a qualified electrician, and ideally the installer who commissioned your unit, since they already know how it is wired and whether it accepts a replacement lead.
Does 15 metres of cable slow charging down?
No. The car draws the lowest of three limits: its own onboard charger, the supply feeding the charge point, and the cable rating. On a single phase home supply that ceiling is 7.4 kW, and a 32A cable of any length passes it without difficulty. Length affects weight and handling, not speed.
Do I still need a cable in the boot?
Yes, if you charge away from home. This cable is fixed to your wallbox and never leaves it. Public and workplace AC posts almost always have sockets, so you need your own portable Type 2 lead for those. Keep one in the boot alongside a bag to store it in.
