How to Choose a 110V Extension Lead for Site Work

Posted by Ware Leads on

Choosing a 110V extension lead starts with compatibility. Check the tool plug, the site transformer or supply socket, and the conditions where the lead will be used before you order.

Check the connectors first

Confirm that your tool and supply use compatible 110V connectors. A lead must have the correct plug at one end and the correct socket at the other. If you need to connect two different connector types, use a properly specified adaptor rather than forcing an unsuitable connection.

Choose a sensible length

Select a lead long enough to reach safely without stretching it across a work area. Longer is not always better: excess cable can be harder to manage and may create a trip hazard. Route and protect the cable so it is not crushed, cut or exposed to conditions it was not designed for.

Check the environment

  • For outdoor or demanding work, choose equipment intended for that environment.
  • Check the product’s stated ingress-protection rating where water or dust may be present.
  • Inspect leads before use and stop using damaged equipment.
  • Do not overload a lead or use it with equipment outside its stated specification.

Shop compatible site power

See the Site Power & 110V collection for leads, adaptors and related equipment. If you are unsure, send us the plug and socket details through the contact page.

This guide is intended to help you compare product types before ordering. Always check the connector on the equipment or supply you are using, the product instructions and the intended environment before use.
